Question: Did you use a videographer and if not, did you regret it?
My answer:
We did not hire a videographer for our wedding. We were under a really tight budget and I just
could not justify the crazy prices I found when I did some research.
However, we did have video at our wedding! We asked friends and family members if they had
video cameras and three of them brought them to the wedding. We set them up like this:
- Camera #1: on a tripod, off to the side, in front of couple, bride's face in the camera -
audio directly from the DJ's mixer
- Camera #2: on a tripod, behind the bridesmaids, groom's face in the camera - audio from a
microphone placed between the officiant and bride & groom
- Camera #3: handheld by a family member in the front row, groom's face and the readers in
the camera - audio from the camcorder's build-in microphone
Here's a rough sketch of the layout:
It worked out great! We got three great angles of the wedding and fantastic audio from the
first two cameras. In retrospect, I would've asked the person who did camera #3 to use a
tripod as well, but hey, it all worked out great - and it was FREE!
Since the wedding, I found someone online to edit the video (including extra footage from the
day after the wedding) for $200. We love our wedding video and we're very glad we did not
spend $1500 or more for a professional videographer.
Best of luck!
